Cappellini Pop Up Shop by Rafael de Cardéna

Architect and designer Rafael de Cárdenas partnered up with Al Moran and Aaron Bondaroff of OHWOW to create a festive pop-up shop in Cappellini’s flagship showroom on Wooster Street in SoHo before Christmas. I simply had to feature this crazy but breathtaking installation!
Consistent with de Cárdenas’ signature graphic design aesthetic, the pop-up shop relies on bold lines, color and contrast to transform the candy cane and gift wrap inspiration into a contemporary and exciting venue for customers.
The design of the temporary pocket-sized structure alluded to a cellophane-wrapped present. Customers were immersed in a kaleidoscope of brightly-colored, crisscrossing translucent bands, giving them the sensation of being inside an oversized gift. Chairs from the Cappellini collection were also wrapped in colorful materials and served as pedestals for OHWOW publications from Ari Marcopoulos, Hanna Liden, Neck Face, and Rosson Crow, among others.
Contemporary artists, among them Terrence Koh, Jim Drain, and Scott Campbell, were commissioned to create unique hand-painted holiday ornaments, which were on display and for sale on triangular towers outside the pop-up.
