Christien Meindertsma at Spazio Rossana Orlandi
Dutch manufacturer Thomas Eyck had commisioned designer Christien Meindertsma to create a number of products to be exhibited at Spazio Rossana Orlando during the Milan Design Week. By using natural dyes and the chemical reaction certain types of metal have on oak, patterns were created on the oak furniture.
Under the project title Oak Inside, Christiene had made an oak table and by leaving metal pieces on the tabletop for a certain amount of time, the oak darkened underneath and created the talked about patterns. She had also designed a cabinet on which she had painted a pattern using wax. Afterwards she covered the cabinet in a mixture of vinegar and metal powder, which made the non-waxed areas turn black. All together her use of natural chemical reactions are stunning and used in a very innovative way.
