Milan 2012 Preview: Porcelain Lamp by WM Studio
Wendy Legro and Maarten Collignon, a duo of young, Eindhoven-trained designers behind Rotterdam-based Studio WM, have realised these two, pared-down pendant lights: a shipyard-inspired, black opaque model called Porcelain and a similar, hand-blown glass version, Gradient.
Based on the same principle, both of the designs employ a pulley mechanism which enables an easy adjustment of the height of the lamps. Part of the ‘Lightness in Lines’ collection, the lights will be presented at Ventura Lambrate during the Salone del Mobile 2012 in Milan.
WM explains about Gradient, “Made from hand-blown glass, the diffused lampshade features a subtle gradient that fades from coloured opaque to transparent.Custom coloured yarn is braided onto the electrical wire that has a small socket attached.Because the colour shows a fluent transition into the glass, it gives the lamp a floating impression.The height of the lamp is easily adjustable with a pulley system.”

About Porcelain they say, “Inspired by the harbour of Rotterdam and shipbuilding, this lamp is adjustable in height with a pulley system. The use of black porcelain gives this old mechanism a sturdy new look.”
