December Chair by Jasper Morrison and Wataru Kumano for Nikari




British designer Jasper Morrison has designed the December Chair in collaboration with Tokyo-based Wataru Kumano.

The chair is the last of 12 products in a series of products developed for japanese brand Nikari this year. Nikari’s project DESIGNS FOR NATURE has brought together some of world’s most renowned designers or design studios, who, each month, has created a wooden product.

Made of ash and natural wood oil mixture, the December Chair is made as a simple knock down structure.

The designers explain, ”We talked about the pleasure in making things and the idea of a chair that could be bought in a box and built at home. Considering Nikari’s skill in wood work, we worked up the idea of a chair which could be made by following easy instructions…”

    Gorgeous! – I love Ash and its pale natural, and think as its a hard wood very versatile for furniture design (along with wood turning)! nudge nudge!
    I have to ask how sturdy it is, as I have tested countless chairs in my time (as you proble have too), and worry about it wracking from side to side.
    Very interesting thats it’s made from wood, and yet you don’t touch any wood when you sit!
    Like the Wassily chair.
